A prize for the highest achieving first year student on a business degree course at Harper Adams University has been awarded to Davide Tortora.
Davide was presented with the McConnel Prize for achieving a 73% average in the first year modules of his BSc (Hons) Agri-Food Marketing with Business Studies course.
The 22-year-old, who is originally from Italy, also scooped the Yara Project award for the best crops project and is the Press and Publicity Officer for the Harper Adams Forum student society.
Davide, said: “I am very happy to be awarded a prize for my academic achievement.
“I think is very good that the university awards prizes to students who achieve good results in their academic studies as it incentives us to study hard and do well.
“I think employers are interested in students who do well in their studies. This should show that I'm reliable and willing to work hard to achieve good results and hopefully, it will prove useful when impressing future employers.”
The prize is open to all first year students on Agri-Food Marketing with Business Studies, Agri-Business and Business Management with Marketing courses at the university in Shropshire.
Course Manager, Pam Whitehouse, said: “Davide has embraced many opportunities available at Harper Adams.
“In the Easter break he went to work on a 1,000 -head dairy farm in Cumbria and in the summer he went on a two-week programme to China and then returned to Newport to work in the fresh produce sector.
“Well done Davide and keep up the good work.”
The prize is donated by McConnel Limited, in memory of the late Christopher MacHattie.
